Madeira - ah bliss!
Orso and I
But I wasn't alone for this trip. Having secured a place, I found that I needed a hat to keep the sun off my rather handsome head. Do you think that Paul and Donna could find me a straw boater? Nobody seemed to know what they were on about. In one of the toy shops they visited you would have thought they wanted to stab a baby from the reaction they got. We did have fun with other sorts of hats (just look at the hat gallery here). To cut a long story short, Mum and Dad were in a charity shop and they saw a small teddy bear hanging from a display shelf and perched on his head was a yummy straw boater that looked just the job for me! Dad made a donation and the bear came home. After a swift hat-ectomy I was the proud owner of a straw hat and the teddy looked so lonesome that I took him on. After all, every unicorn needs a travelling companion doesn't he?
We boarded the flight to Funchal airport and a few intereseted passengers asked why I wasn't wearing my seat belt but no one seemed to mind too much particularly when they found out about the stories for Jemimah.
We touched down at Funchal airport and out Madeiran adventure began. You can see some of the snapshots in my fun gallery. Orso (my teddy) and I had a terrific time. Everything from a cable car ride up to Monte and the seldge ride down to helping Dad change a wheel when he pulled the tyre off the rim in a pothole! The sun was good for my complexion and I discovered that I liked a tipple of beer. The local brew is called Coral and I assume that it is because I am pink and coral can be too that I liked it.
